West Carroll Thunder looks super
HANOVER, Mar. 3-Defeat, even by a worthy foe can be bitter, and for River Ridge the 58-50 loss to the West Carroll Thunder in the Brad Albrecht Field house, may have been doubly so.

It brings to an end a 22 game winning streak by the Cats, but at the hands of a team that played better on this night, if that's any comfort.

The overflow crowd of more than 1600 were all in place an hour and a half before the sectional championship tip off.

Panthers escape Pirate comeback
GALENA, Feb. 14-The Galena Pirates came back from a 10 point deficit in the fourth quarter, but faltered in overtime as Le-Win came away with a 62-57 road victory, securing second place in the NUIC-West, three games behind River Ridge.

"In my four years as head coach we finished second each year, so I'm getting tired of finishing second," said Le-Win coach Dennis Huttenlocher, about his (18-9, 9-3) Panthers.

Indians upset Prophets in Galena regional
GALENA, Feb. 9-The Dakota Indians held off a big Prophetstown comeback, defeating the no. 2 seeded Prophets 62-56 in an intense Galena regional final.

It's not a good time to lose a major starter, but Dakota's captain, Jessica Langholf, injured her ankle in yesterday's practice.

As a result, junior Samantha Goeke made her first start of the season, and more than made the best of it.

Goeke scored a game high 22 points, lifting the 22-5 Indians to the Forreston sectional semifinals against Polo.

Payback time for RR-SM
HANOVER, Jan. 17-River Ridge-Scales Mound wasn't going to let this clash with Warren at home be a repeat of the Warriors come from behind wins twice earlier in the season, when they lost a lead at halftime, before falling to the Warriors.

The Wildcats dominated a listless Warren squad with a convincing 60-39 win, remaining in a tie for first place in the NUIC-West with Stockton.

The Wildcats are 16-7 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

Stockton is 16-6 and also 5-1 in league play. Warren drops one game back at (15-7, 4-2 NUIC-W).

After a 10-10 first quarter the Wildcats raced to a 34-18 advantage midway through the third quarter, spurred by their pressure defense, which caused 27 Warren turnovers.
